In this episode of the ‘Making It Count’ podcast, we sit down with Sonia Bestulic, a Multi-Award nominated Author, Founding Director of Talking Heads Speech Pathology, Podcaster of Chatabout Children with Sonia Bestulic, and highly regarded Speaker.
As a child, Sonia loved helping people and the older she got the greater this desire within her grew. All of her passion accumulated until she became a speech pathologist and opened her own clinic in Sydney. With the mothers Sonia worked with, she saw that although there were strength and determination, mums are exhausted. ‘I could see that they weren’t including themselves on their list of people to nurture and take care of’ says Sonia. She realised that by supporting mothers – we can support the children in a much more elevated way. ‘I wanted them to know -You matter too’. So, Sonia wrote her third book – ‘Flourish for Mums – 21 ways to thrive with self-care and acceptance.’
Sonia gives us a sneak peek and reveals some her top tips to thrive with self-care. Tip number one – ‘Honour your human-ness – let go of all the high expectations and perfectionism and focus on what matters.’ Sonia goes on to explain the ‘compare and contrast button’ in our brains and how we can interrupt negative thinking with thankfulness. Also, we need to get up and dance! ‘Dance is an awesome re-connection tool – it brings you in a zone of presence.’
We switch gears and talk all things social media. ‘I think sometimes we forget we’re in control of it’ says Sonia, ‘You need to make sure you are making it work for you and ask – what is the purpose of me being on social media?’ then take a moment to ask yourself how you are feeling after you get off social media.
And finally, we hear how Sonia takes time to reconnect with herself as a working mum of 3 and her ‘to-do’ and ‘to-be’ list.
So, sit back and enjoy this episode with Sonia Bestulic as she Makes It Count.
