How Relevant Are You?

I spoke at a large corporate event last Friday and I always find it interesting what people takeaway from the points I share. The topic was leading from the front, which is a big topic!

The key thing with leadership, regardless of how philosophical people get with it is it all depends on you. Who you are, what you do and how relevant you are to your career and leadership. Ever thought that way before? I hadn’t until I was forced to.

Many people have an ‘ideal’ of what leadership is and who they are as a leader. However, until they embrace the ideal they have in their minds, they will not be this leader or a version of who they ‘think’ they are.

We all know and are acutely aware the world is turning at a rapid rate and we’re running to keep up. This doesn’t leave much time for people to be considered about their leadership, or give it any thought at all in fact. They just exist, doing what they’ve been doing for years, even decades.

The rapid pace of the world has brought about rapid change introducing different levels of complexity to business and leadership. The world has changed and evolved. So if you are continuing to operate as you did a couple of years ago let alone last decade, you are going to be feeling the effects.

Leadership needs to evolve and stay relevant to changing times. To be relevant to your future, whether that be in business or your career, you need to have clarity on what this looks like and take the time to consider how you need to be. This is the biggest thing my audience took out of the session.

Clarity!

It’s one of my favourite terms at the moment and one of the most powerful things you can have. Clarity in your direction. Clarity of your leadership. Clarity on how you are and will stay relevant to your goals – career and business.

So are you relevant now and to your future?

To lead business, your career, generations of people, change and pace while also keeping your vision in tact, you need to be relevant to now and the future. It’s certainly worth setting time aside to consider this and implement the changes you need to make to ensure you are. Otherwise, you’re going to be left in the dark when others are moving forward. Because they need to. Times are changing and so must they. And so must you.

The world needs you – the leader in you.
