When I first launched my podcast, I wasn’t trying to go global.
Truthfully?
I wasn’t even sure if anyone would listen.
But I knew I had something to say. Something to offer. Something that went beyond the perfectly polished leadership tips and into the messy, human stuff most people don’t talk about.
And so I hit publish. And hoped for the best!
Episode one. Then two. Then ten. Then fifty.
Not chasing downloads. Just committed to the conversation and offering valuable success and mindset insights.
Fast forward to the time I realised: I held a spot in the Top 20 Aussie Apple podcasts – nuts. Then Top 5% of podcasts globally. With 235 episodes and guests ranging from Olympians to CEOs, the show had become something bigger than I ever expected.
And just recently? It moved into the top 3% globally. I actually said out loud, “Wait… what?!”
Wild.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned from this journey, it’s this:
You don’t get traction from virality. You get it from clarity, consistency, and connection.
Let me break it down.
1. Clarity
Once I anchored into who this podcast was really for (smart, experienced leaders who want to learn and be inspired by others), everything shifted. And of course, this evolved as the podcast went along.
The topics became sharper. The guests were more aligned. The feedback hit deeper.
And here’s what I noticed most: when you’re clear on who you are—and you anchor to that—you show up with a different energy. One that’s confident. Focused. Unshakable.
When you’re clear on who you’re speaking to, they feel it.
2. Consistency
I know, I know. It sounds unsexy.
But showing up at first every fortnight and now every week, even when downloads were low or I wasn’t feeling “inspired,” was one of the most powerful moves I made.
Because consistency builds trust. Not just with your audience—but with yourself. This is BIG! Something for you to remember when you are working to achieve a result – it’s the key to success in anything!
3. Connection
The moment I stopped trying to sound “professional” and started sounding like me, everything changed. I shared more solo episodes and the downloads skyrocketed! This wasn’t something I expected to be honest; I had that doubt in the back of my mind…why would people want to hear from me? And I felt all kinds of awkward when recording – but the results proved me wrong!
People don’t connect to polished. They connect to real. To stories. To truth. To vulnerability wrapped in value.
And the more I shared from the heart, the more people reached out saying, “I felt like you were speaking directly to me.”
So if you’re sitting on an idea… Wrestling with imposter syndrome… Or wondering, “What if no one listens?”
Here’s what I want you to know:
Start messy. Stay honest. Keep showing up.
You never know who needs to hear exactly what you have to say.
And sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do?
Is simply choose to begin.
