Stop Juggling, Start Leading: Which Balls Are You Really Dropping?

I was speaking with a client the other day who said, “I realised I was treating all my balls like crystal. But when I looked closer, some of them weren’t crystal at all.”

That single realisation changed everything for her. It freed her up to release pressure, reduce the overwhelm, and prioritise what really mattered.

And that’s the power of the Juggle Framework.

The Thing About the Juggle

Life and leadership can feel like a relentless balancing act. Work deadlines. Family commitments. Health. Teams. Friends. Emails. The list doesn’t end. But here’s the catch: not all balls are equal.

  • Crystal Balls – the precious ones. Drop these and they shatter: your health, your closest relationships, your values.
  • Rubber Balls – they bounce. You can put them down and pick them up later. Things like some work projects, social catch-ups, or household jobs.
  • Concrete Balls – heavy, draining, and they don’t bounce. Often carried out of guilt or habit. These are the ones you can (and should) put down, delegate, or never pick up again.

The problem? Most of us treat everything like crystal. No wonder we feel stressed, stretched, and on the edge of breaking.

The Pause That Changes Everything

This is where the power of the pause comes in. Before you keep juggling the same balls, stop. Step back. Be brutally honest:

  • Which balls are truly crystal for you right now?
  • Which ones could bounce for a while? Be honest and be strategic here. So many balls can bounce.
  • Which ones are concrete and need to be dropped? The ones that drain your energy. The ones you juggle out of people pleasing!

Take five minutes to run your juggle through this lens and you’ll see things differently.

Why This Matters

When you pause and prioritise honestly, you:

  • Reduce stress and overwhelm – no more treating laundry like it’s as critical as your health.
  • Protect your energy – crystal gets your best, concrete gets dropped.
  • Get strategic with the juggle – you decide where to focus, instead of letting busyness decide for you.
  • Uphold boundaries – because not every ball deserves your time – ever.
  • Create more time for you – and that’s not selfish. It’s smart leadership. Taking time for yourself fuels clarity, resilience, and the ability to show up at your best.

A Leadership Choice

Leadership starts with self-leadership. Every ball you choose to keep in play is a choice – about your values, your energy, and your impact.

So the next time you feel like you’re drowning in the juggle, ask yourself:
Which balls am I choosing to carry and which ones am I brave enough to drop?

Because when you stop juggling everything, you start leading with clarity, purpose, and strength.
