In October 2021, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with aggressive stage 3 melanoma.
It’s been an incredibly challenging time and, refusing to let cancer define me, I’ve kept it close to my chest. Now, it’s time to share my story and I’ve asked my friend, Jacinta Tynan, to help facilitate this very personal and vulnerable conversation.
Jacinta is a highly regarded news presenter and journalist, author of her newly published book, The Single Mothers Club and writes a regular column for Body & Soul magazine about spirituality. I’m honoured that she has joined me today to help tell my story and reveal deeper parts of myself in this conversation.
We talked about:
- The shock I experienced being thrust into the fight of my life, looking mortality in the eye and being completely out of control.
- Embracing reality rather than fighting it.
- Being vulnerable to rely on others – not something that comes naturally to me.
- Gaining clarity and receiving life’s messages at the least opportune moments.
My hope for this episode is to destigmatize cancer and help others know they aren’t alone. I’m choosing to embrace vulnerability on this journey and what it has to offer to my life and to others as well.
