For many of us, the beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world are so deep-set in our subconscious that we’re not even aware of them – or their limiting power over our lives.
They usually date back to our childhood, where our experiences taught us to think certain ways and act in accordance in order to survive.
Too often, we carry these beliefs into adulthood and our ways of operating are often dictated by them.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Rena Harvey, a renowned healer, speaker, teacher, reiki master practitioner, sound therapist, holistic counsellor and author of The Formula of Life: Go Deeper, Rise Higher.
With her incredible insight on transforming limiting beliefs – gained from her personal 30-year journey of healing – we talked about the amazing potential we all have to heal our wounded child and set ourselves free.
Rena takes us through the process of tapping into our true potential by healing the inner child and harnessing the power of manifestation.
Understanding Limiting Beliefs
What actually are limiting beliefs? They are the doubts and fears ingrained in our subconscious from childhood, usually between the ages of zero to ten. These stories and beliefs, often formed from painful experiences, can hold us back from realising our true potential. Common examples include feelings of being “not good enough,” “not deserving,” or “not important.” These beliefs are so embedded within us that they can become the primary barrier to our success.
Reprogramming Childhood Wounding
The principle of reprogramming childhood wounding is fundamental in Rena’s approach. She explains that this process involves identifying our limiting beliefs and working to change them over a period of about 30 days. This reprogramming can be accomplished through various methods, including affirmations, visualisations and consistently challenging our negative thoughts. By doing this, we start to form new patterns and create a more empowering belief system.
Manifestation and the Power of Thought
One of the most enlightening parts of our discussion was the concept of manifestation. Rena explains that our thoughts and feelings create our reality and by focusing on positive, empowering thoughts and feelings, we can begin to attract the very things we desire. This process isn’t just about thinking positive thoughts; it’s about genuinely embodying those feelings and beliefs, even if it means pretending at first. Over time, as we practise deliberate creation, these new beliefs become a fundamental part of our reality.
The Continuous Journey
Healing and transforming limiting beliefs is not a one-time endeavour but a continuous process. Rena reminds us that we must constantly work on our beliefs, as layers of these limiting thoughts can re-emerge at different stages of our lives. The key is to remain aware and in control, nurturing ourselves through the journey and consistently reinforcing positive beliefs.
Bringing it Into Practice
How can people start to practise these concepts in their daily lives? Rena suggests using affirmations throughout the day to replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones. However, the affirmation isn’t just about saying the words; it’s about feeling them. By visualising and truly embodying the feeling of being “good enough” or “worthy,” we begin to shift our reality at a cellular level.
Talking with Rena was incredibly inspiring, and it reaffirmed the power we each hold to transform our lives. Her message is clear: by understanding our wounds and dedicating ourselves to a life-long journey of healing, we can begin to truly take control and redefine what’s possible in our lives.
