Rachel Derrico
Reducing Risk in the Workplace

Joining me on the podcast today is Rachel Derrico, Senior Associate at Rankin Business Lawyers.
Rachel is an experienced employment and industrial relations lawyer and works across all areas of workplace relations law.

Rachel enjoys working with clients to reduce risk in the workplace by providing proactive and commercial solutions for clients and conducting practical and targeted workplace training on a range of employment law issues including discrimination, bullying, mental health and work health and safety.

Rachel’s wide-ranging experience includes drafting employment agreements and advising clients on employment rights and obligations, the application and operation of industrial instruments, termination of employment, organisational change, restraint of trade and confidentiality issues, unfair dismissal, adverse action, discrimination and work health and safety.

Prior to joining Rankin Business Lawyers, Rachel gained practical legal and HR experience working in the HR team at Abigroup Contractors (now Lendlease) which then led her to work in private practice in boutique law firms.

Rachel has a combined Bachelor of Laws (honours) and Bachelor of Arts degree and has also completed her Master of Laws in Workplace and Employment Law at Monash University.

This podcast has two levels to it:

Firstly, Rachel generously shares her knowledge on employment law and we discuss:

  • The top 4 things employers should have in place when starting to employ people
  • The three most common mistakes employers are making
  • The benefits of taking a human approach to business
  • How Rachel can assist employers and leaders

Secondly, you will hear a clear message from an employee who is fully engaged and committed to her employer because she is able to live true to her values and has the flexibility she needs to operate at her best.

This is also a very powerful message for employers and leaders and is first-hand evidence of how strong an advocate for your business your employees can be when a strong culture is cultivated and when the business operates true to its values. Enjoy!
