Happy Spring! I, for one, am so grateful to see the blossoms bloom and the trees wake from their winter slumber. Onwards and upwards to my favourite time of year – a season of renewal, energy, and growth.
Last Wednesday night marked our very first Lead.Her Collective dinner, and the feedback has been incredible. The energy in the room was electric. The engagement? Next level. Especially during our panel discussion featuring Catherine Duncan, Donna de Zwart and myself.
There was one moment that stopped the room in its tracks.
Donna de Zwart was talking about the power of ageing said something like this:
Relevance doesn’t fade as you get older. If anything, age gives you the confidence to say – this is who I am. And I’m not dimming that for anyone.
Truth. And every woman in that room felt it.
Because here’s what no one tells you loudly enough:
Age is just a number. Mindset is the game.
Yes, ageism is real. And rising.
Ageism isn’t just limited to women either. Men experience this also.
We can’t ignore those stats. But we can refuse to hand over our power.
Because the real danger isn’t the bias itself.
It’s what happens when we start believing it.
When we shrink before we’re sidelined.
When we start looking for signs we’re being overlooked.
When we decide we’re “past it” before anyone else does.
That’s when we lose our edge. Not because of age, but because we’ve stopped positioning ourselves to stay relevant in a constantly changing world.

Donna’s words were a wake-up call:
You are not too late. You are not too much. You are not irrelevant.
You are evolving.
You are experienced.
And you are here – for a reason.

Because in a fast-changing world, relevance isn’t guaranteed. It’s earned – through intention, clarity, and courage.
You don’t have to prove your worth.
But you do have to own your presence.
