Three Books Worth of Words. One Reason I Kept Writing.

Thank you.

Two words that don’t come close to covering it, but they’re where I need to start.

I’ve been writing for over sixteen years. A blog, most weeks. Around 500 words each time. The maths tells me that adds up to roughly 288,000 words, which is close to three full-length books worth of words sitting in your inbox or on your screen at some point over the years.

And the reason I kept writing every single one of them? I wanted to be useful to you.

To give you something worth your time. To challenge how you’re thinking about something. To say the thing that shifts your perspective on a hard week. To help you out of a funk, or into a decision you’d been avoiding, or simply to remind you that what you’re carrying is real and you’re not carrying it alone.

That’s it. That has always been it.

Some posts have been rants. The kind where something about leadership, or culture, or the crazy landscape we are navigating needs to be said. Some have been heartfelt. Some topical. Some practical. Some personal in ways I didn’t fully plan when I sat down to write.

And some were written during the hardest period of my life.

When I was diagnosed with stage three melanoma in 2021, I wasn’t sure what writing would look like for a while. But I kept going. And what came back from this community was incredible. Not just the sympathy, though that was kind. It was the realness of it. Messages from people I had never met. From people who had been reading for years. From leaders who said something I wrote once had stayed with them at a moment they needed it.

That is not something you manufacture. It either exists or it doesn’t.

It exists here, and I don’t take it for granted.

This blog has never been about one thing. It has followed what’s true, what’s relevant, what I’m genuinely thinking about. Leadership, self-leadership, busyness, identity, resilience, choice, courage, the quiet cost of always performing, and what becomes possible when people decide to back themselves.

What connects this community is not industry, title or geography. It is a shared belief that how we show up matters. That being our best is a choice. And that when more people make that choice, the ripple reaches further than any one of us can see from where we’re standing.

You role model that. In your teams, your homes, your communities. You may not always see it, but it is there.

So thank you for reading. For replying when something landed. For pushing back when you disagreed. For sharing a post with someone you thought needed it. For being the kind of person who chooses growth even when life is full and it would be easier not to.

I’d love to hear what has resonated most over the years, what you’d like more of, and what you’re sitting with right now.

The conversation keeps going and I’m so happy you’re with me.
